GM Ecotec Supported vehicles
GM Ecotec Supported vehiclesBelow is a list of Ecotec engines that have PCMs that can be calibrated at this time.
But lets say we have a customer who's already purchased an engine and it IS NOT on this list, they will simply need to aquire a harness and PCM from a vehicle that IS on the list to run the engine. When we "mix and match" it is best to stay within a range of years, 2007 and up engines should only be run with 2007 and up PCM, 2006 and below should only be run with 2006 and below PCM. In 2007 the 2.2L was upgraded with a second generation cylinder case, Coil on plug ignition, 58x crankshaft position sensing and a 32-bit PCM.
Not all of the Ecotecs are the same, they're close, but with subtle differences. In one donor car we may find an electronic throttle, in order to use that engine harness the electronic throttle pedal will need to be transplanted into the host vehicle.
If an electronic throttle is not preferred, the installer can aquire an Ecotec harness and PCM, as well as a cable operated throttle body from a cable drive vehicle that is on the list.
Also several of the early Ecotec engine were designed to run with no MAF sensor, this may be a desirable system if the host vehicle is better suited to having an air cleaner mounted right on the throttle body as opposed to running the intake tube and air box. When doing this it is most important to remember that the engine is still going to need a hole in the air cleaner coupler to accommodate the Intake Air Temp sensor. Several rubber couplers on the market to adapt a K&N style air cleaner can be found with provisions for the IAT.
When we mix and match this engine with that harness and so forth it is useful to have access to the vehicle that donated the harness, often there will be a difference in other items, such as sensors and the installer may need to replace one or several things with the items that were intended to be used with that particular harness. An inconvenience, but overall easily rectified.
