1) How easy is my harness going to be to install after your conversion?

After you re-install the harness on the engine itself, you can begin making connections to the vehicle.
Every wire you will need to connect into the host vehicle will be labeled accordingly.
There is no lengthly programming of the ECU required as in the case of an aftermarket engine management system.
You will need to have access to Ignition and Battery power to the vehicle (It is strongly recommended that any power connections are fuse protected).
You willl need to identify the wires that come from any gauges and the "Service Engine " lamp.
The relays for the Fuel Pump and Cooling Fan will be installed on the harness, but you'll need to establish the connections to the fuel pump and cooling fan.

2) How much time will it take to convert my harness?

Depending upon the complexity of the harness, and our workload a conversion will be completed in 3-4 weeks from the date of arrival.
Jobs are often completed ahead of schedule.

4) What regions of my harness will be affected by the process?

The most obvious changes will be made in the areas where the engine harness used to plug into the donor vehicle.
These plugs will be removed, as will any non-essential wiring.
The wiries leading to the ECU will be accessed and any unused wiring into the ECU removed as well.

5) What will my harness look like after the conversion?

Any areas that are modified will be re-covered in factory style split loom.
We use a somewhat different technique than the factory when installing the loom, our improved method leaves the least amount of tape showing as possible, to allow you easy access to the actual harness inside. This way you will be able to lift most of the loom away from the harness and run more wiring through it to assist your installation.
There will be a small bundle of wires that are run out of the harness for you to wire the engine to the host vehicle.
Any relays needed by that particular engine will be installed on the harness and ready to wire into the vehicle as well.
A new OBD-I or OBD-II diagnostic link will be installed on the harness, and will allow diagnostics to be performed on the vehicle

6) I have some damage to my harness, can you make repairs to it?

Some damage is to be expected, and will just be repaired during the conversion process.
Damage such as fire damage or more than 10 severed wires will be an extra charge. Please provide an accurate description for quote.

7) Could you sell me a wiring harness?

We don't carry any stock of harnesses, but periodically we do have random engine harnesses for sale. Please phone to inquire about availability.

8) I don't see my harness mentioned here, could EngineWiring.com convert it?

Contact us with the details: year, make, model, displacement of the donor vehicle. There's a good chance we can accommodate it.

9) Can you disable my factory antitheft system?

Early GM VATS systems can be defeated through Enginewiring.com, with the aid of a microprocessor based defeat module.
Many ECUs can now be recalibrated through EngineWiring.com to remove antitheft systems. Please phone for more details
If you have an anti-theft system we don't support, we can still convert your engine harness, but the anti-theft defeat will be your responsibility.
We'll do anything we can do to assist you when we convert the harness, contact us and we'll see how we can help.

10) What exactly do I send to you? Will you require the ECU?

We'll need just the engine harness itself, please DO NOT SEND THE ECU UNLESS WE HAVE VERIFIED THAT WE WILL BE RECALIBRATING IT.
Some Honda engine wiring harnesses may not be practical to remove cleanly from the donor vehicle without severing them behind the dash of the vehicle. Please do try to keep as much intact as possible. It is imperitive that the harness is not severed between the engine and ECU.
Some Subaru engines have sub-harnesses that connect to the main Engine harness with plugs. It's a good idea to send these sub-harnesses so they can be properly inspected and we can have a complete unit when we do the final shaping and looming of it.
As a general rule, we need to have (intact) everything between the ECU and the actual engine plugs. Please include in the package a short note with the year/ make/ model/ engine displacement of the donor vehicle. Also anything peculiar, for instance if the engine is JDM or came from a right-drive donor vehicle.
As well as your return address, contact phone number, and any special requests.

13) Could you lengthen the wires to the ECU? I'd like to put it in a different location.

We have lengthened many ECU plugs, due to the time consuming nature of that modification we charge a flat rate of $100.00 USD for 3 feet of length, $10.00 USD per foot of length beyond that.
